I Will Walk 500 Miles...

Every Step Counts For The Children Of Nepal

Stephen Howlin, aged 26 is about to take on a fantastic challenge to raise money for The Umbrella Foundation.

Stephen and friends are set to walk 500 miles through 26 towns across Ireland. Stephen who last year volunteered for the Umbrella Foundation in Nepal was inspired by the Proclaimers song ‘I will walk 500 miles..’ to raise much needed funds for the children of the Foundation.

Stephen will start his mammoth walk on Saturday 22nd April from Dublin and finish up in Galway City on 24th May. Stephen is seeking support from local sports and social clubs in each town he passes through to join him at the end of the day walk into the respective town. He hopes to gain lots of local support and the all important contributions to the Umbrella Foundation.

  White Collar Fight Night

Saturday, 7th November 2009

After 8 weeks of grueling training, 16 local guys took to the ring in Terenure College to battle in aid of the Umbrella Foundation. The participating ‘fighters’ from around Terenure, Rathfarnham and Rathgar had no prior boxing experience but this did not deter them in the slightest. Their goal was to raise much needed funds for the children of Nepal and support their Irish friends working in Kathmandu.

No one could have imagined the success the night would be! With 450 tickets sold out and with the fighters holding personal fundraisers to participate the night raised a reported €25,000!!!

Umbrella can’t thank the lads enough for braving the ring for the kids of Nepal! All proceeds will go directly to The Umbrella Foundation Nepal and will make a huge difference in the lives of Nepal’s most vulnerable children.

All reports say it was a great evening and there are plenty of volunteers for next years brawl!

Irish Rugby Star ‘lines out’ to support children of Nepal

October 2009

Suzanne McCabe (model), Stephen Jenkinson (Country Director, Umbrella Foundation, Nepal) and Jamie Heaslip (Leinster & International Rugby Star)

Lions, Irish and Leinster rugby star, Jamie Heaslip today announced his patronage of The Umbrella Foundation Nepal.

Leinster Number 8 player with 18 caps for Ireland, Jamie has taken time out of his busy training schedule to promote his support of UFN and raise awareness of the plight of the Nepali children we are striving to help.

Jamie first became aware of UFN and its work through an ex-rugby team-mate, Stephen Jenkinson who is currently the Country Director for the Foundation in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Jamie has committed to supporting the Foundation in any way he can and is hoping his association will heighten the awareness of UFN and its work.

Speaking at The Herbert Park Hotel in Ballsbridge Jamie said “I’m delighted to be able to use my position to support The Umbrella Foundation in any way I can and hope that my involvement will create much needed awareness for the plight of these children in Nepal.  It is heart-warming to know, especially in the current economic climate, that there are young Irish people like Stephen currently over in Nepal taking time out of their own careers to care for the children of Nepal and support the excellent work of The Umbrella Foundation”.

Umbrella is thrilled to have Jamie’s support and welcomes his association with The Umbrella Foundation.

Bring & Buy Book Sale

October 2009

A bring and buy book sale was held in Rathgar in aid of The Umbrella Foundation and it was a huge success. People donated their favourite old books, CDs and DVDs to the sale and managed to find some new gems on the day.

Our Irish volunteer team did a great job on the day, there was information on Umbrella available all day long and the sense of Irish hospitality never quit with tea and coffee pouring. It was a lovely day out, browsing through old books and talking ot new friends and the day also managed to raise an Bring along your favourite book, CD or DVD on Saturday 3rd October and enjoy a day browsing and picking up some great bargains.  Tea & coffee available throughout the day and you can even taste some Nepalese cuisine!   All proceeds will go directly to the Umbrella Foundation, an Irish run charity caring for the children of Nepal.
