Ozomatli : Umbrella's Celebrity Sponsors

Old friends of the Umbrella Foundation will remember that last February,
Ozomatli, the world famous Latin Hip-hop band, rocked Kathmandu and New Delhi with two free peace concerts, that brought hope and joy to the youth of both cities.
On their visit to Kathmandu,
Ozomatli asked the tour organizers if they could visit an orphanage and meet some of the estimated 31,000 children displaced or orphaned by the 10 year long civil conflict in Nepal. The Umbrella Foundation was recommended to them as one organization truly making a difference in the lives of such children.
Ozomatli to the Rescue!!!
Not long after the tour ended,
Ozomatli contacted The Umbrella Foundation and asked us what they could do to help our children. The Umbrella Foundation is an emergency response and we are often called upon to rescue children before we can secure sponsorship for them. So we asked
Ozomatli to sponsor the 28 children on our books, still without sponsorship, at the time of their concert, and
Ozomatli agreed. With these children's costs now provided for, The Umbrella Foundation can continue to rescue orphan and destitute children in Kathmandu.
Ozomatli rocked our World!!!

At 8am on February 17th the world famous, Latin, hip-hop band,
Ozomatli, came to visit and perform for the children of the Umbrella Foundation. What a wonderful morning we had as our children performed for
Ozomatli, before the band turned our basketball court into a rock concert.
USAID organized a series of concerts for this Grammy Award winning band in venues in India and Nepal, and we could hardly believe our luck when the band requested to meet a group of Nepali youth and USAID
suggested us, The Umbrella Foundation, for the visit. Many, many, thanks to every member of Ozomatli, who took time out of their busy schedule to bring an unforgettable morning to all 242 of our children. And huge thanks, to Jennifer, Melissa, and Rebecca of USAID for organizing the event and including us in it! We truly had the time of our lives!!!

Although we were afraid (huge crowds) to let the younger children under the Umbrella attend the free concert by
Ozomatli in Ratna Park, we knew that our older children and our young strong volunteers (including Harry Coogan) would want to see the band in their full glory. We called our friends at President Travel, a well-established travel agency in Kathmandu, and they immediately offered a huge bus to take a large group down to Ratna Park in the centre of Kathmandu for the concert. The rest of us
watched on the television as Channel Nepal televised the entire concert. Robin and the New Revolution opened and as the top band in Kathamndu the crowd clearly appreciated their songs about peace and freedom. Then on came
Ozomatli whose Latin beats and reggae and hip hop flavour had the crowd swaying and cheering. Thank-you to President Travel for making it possible for our older kids to have the experience of a lifetime!
