Child Sponsorship
Umbrella relies almost entirely on the generosity of its friends from all around the world. As with any project in the developing world, the aim is always sustainable development. Child Sponsorship is the most effective way to raise sustainable funds. Umbrella spends over €80 per month on each child. This money is spent on their housing, education, food, medical treatments, clothing, and extra tuition where needed. Many children are still unsponsored and as a result, the pressure to meet monthly bills is surmounting. By becoming a sponsor, you are ensuring a brighter future for a very needy Nepali child. In order to avoid jealousy or ill feelings amongst the children, sponsors are described to children as their friends or in fact their big sisters or brothers from abroad.
What can I expect as a Sponsor?
Sponsoring a child can be a very rewarding experience as our sponsors make a real difference in the lives of the children they choose to help by financially and emotionally supporting them. While the children don't put a monetary value to this relationship, they cherish the letters they receive and the knowledge that someone in the world cares about them. Sponsors receive information packs about their sponsor child periodically throughout the year with general updates, school reports, photos and a letter from their sponsor child. We also encourage our sponsors to keep in touch with their sponsor child as often as they like and enjoy a cultural exchange with them. Please download and read our Sponsorship Brochure for more information.
How do I become a sponsor?
While it costs Umbrella over €80 per month to care for a child we ask sponsors to send a minimum €20 per month in order to be the sponsor of a child. We ask that a standing order or direct debit be sent each month in order to help us project our monthly budgets and sustain the care and standards for each child. Fill the Sponsor a Child Now form and our Sponsorship Co-ordinator will be in touch soon to tell you more about becoming a sponsor. On becoming a sponsor, you will receive information about your new sponsor child and the child will be informed of their new sponsor, thus starting the relationship of sponsor and child.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor to one of our children, please read the brochure attached below and complete our online application here - Sponor a Child Now
