MARCH

UMBRELLA 7'S

The Umbrella Under 17s Rugby Sevens Tournament

Jamie coaching the kids in Nepal

It will be taking place on Saturday 24th March 2012 in Terenure College, Dublin 6W.

This competition is slightly different to others, as not only will the participants enjoy finishing off their season by playing one of the most exciting brands of rugby and enhancing all the skills used in the 15-a-side game, but it will also help orphaned and trafficked children in Nepal, one of the world’s poorest countries.

In the last number of years 7s rugby has taken off as an international sport, so much so that in 2016, 7s rugby will be in the Olympics. Ireland is currently the only major rugby playing nation that does not have a professional 7s team, and without an organised 7s competition at schools level, the gap is set to grow.

A bit about The Umbrella Foundation
The Umbrella Foundation, an Irish run charity based being run by 3 yound Irish people in Kathmandu Nepal, seeks to relieve the impact of poverty and war on children through projects which promote education, vocational training, and community enrichment, so that they may grow up to become responsible, contributing citizens of Nepal.

Umbrella has focused on rescuing, housing, and educating trafficked and destitute children. The current capacity is 325 children, living in 8 houses. Now that the civil war is over, Umbrella can focus on reuniting the children with their families when conditions permit or, when reunification is not possible, providing them the education and vocational skills they need to ensure they can find gainful employment when they become adults. By focusing on this latter stage of the cycle now, The Umbrella Foundation can endeavour to restart the cycle and rescue more conflict-displaced children, whose number is now estimated at 30,000
